Why Nigerian Beauty Customers Prefer Online Booking

Many Nigerian beauty customers prefer online booking for its convenience, reducing unnecessary communication while improving appointment management and customer experience.

Booking a salon or spa appointment used to be a drag: send a WhatsApp message, call the business, or slide into its Instagram DMs and wait for someone to confirm a time. That process hasn’t disappeared, but customers now have another option that gives them more control over when and how they book.

According to Splice’s 2025/2026 Beyond Beauty Report, 49.1% of Nigerian beauty customers prefer online booking. That doesn’t necessarily mean customers want less human interaction. They simply don’t need a conversation to accomplish something as basic as choosing a service, checking availability, and booking.

For beauty businesses, this distinction matters. Online booking isn’t about replacing personal service. It simply removes unnecessary friction before the service even begins.

3 reasons beauty customers choose online booking

Reason 1: It gives customers control over when they book

Convenience is primarily why online booking is gaining ground among Nigerian beauty customers. 7 in 10 customers say it’s more convenient than calling, texting, or walking into a business.

Think about how people actually discover beauty businesses. Someone might come across a salon on Instagram late at night (68.3% use Instagram to discover new salons and spas), remember they need a haircut while commuting to work, or decide they want a facial over the weekend.

Instead of waiting until the business opens or spending the next few hours waiting for a WhatsApp/Instagram reply, online booking lets customers check available services and time slots and make an appointment.

That small difference gives customers more control. Instead of fitting their booking around your communication process, they can book when they’re ready.

Reason 2: It removes the back-and-forth

Anyone who has booked a simple beauty appointment through WhatsApp or Instagram knows how quickly it can turn into a conversation about prices, available slots, location, deposits, and what happens next.

The problem isn’t communication itself, since customers may have questions that need a personal response. The frustration comes when they have to ask for information that could have been available from the start.

Online booking can bring services, prices, available times, and appointment details into one place. Customers can check what they need and confirm their appointment without waiting for someone to respond to every step.

Put simply, customers aren’t necessarily asking for less communication. They’re asking for less unnecessary communication.

Reason 3: It makes beauty businesses feel more organised

The customer experience begins from the moment they try to book an appointment, way before they sit in your chair. A confusing or poorly managed booking process can create friction before the customer has even experienced your service.

This matters because 71.7% of Nigerian beauty customers rank service quality as the biggest contributor to their satisfaction, according to Splice’s latest Beyond Beauty Report.

Online booking can’t guarantee quality service, of course. But a well-designed booking system can help create a more organised experience around that service. Clear appointment details, available time slots, confirmations, and reminders give customers greater certainty about what to expect.

That certainty can shape how they perceive your business. When customers can book without confusion and receive the information they need at each stage, the business feels easier to deal with.

What should Nigerian beauty businesses do next?

Offering online booking is only useful if the process is easy to use. A booking link that leads to outdated prices, unavailable time slots, or a confusing form can create just as much frustration as a WhatsApp conversation.

  • Start by keeping your service menu, prices, opening hours, and availability up to date.
  • Make your booking link easy to find across your website and social media profiles.
  • Avoid asking customers for information you don’t actually need.
  • Once an appointment is made, send a confirmation immediately and follow it up with reminders before the appointment.
  • Your cancellation and rescheduling policies should also be clear from the beginning.

The goal is to build a booking experience that works for both you and your customers.

This is where a system like Splice can help. It lets customers book online while helping businesses manage appointments, send automated reminders, handle payments, and keep customer information organised.

When the booking process works smoothly, everyone spends less time chasing appointments and more time delivering great service.
